Australian Leisure Management have reported that a recent court ruling in the South Australian High Court may result in the banning, or significant restrictions being applied to school sports across the country. The case follows a successful claim for damages from a female school student after she was injured while windsurfing on a school excursion. South Australian Education Minister Jane Lomax-Smith warned that many other competitive sports such as cricket, netball, tennis and football may be at risk from such decisions.Such cases demonstrate the continued risk of liability from injuries sustained during organised sporting activities and reinforces the importance of a good risk management plan to limit such exposure.
